The following products are aimed at those who want to reduce their dependence on conventional power.
These are not complete "Off-Grid" solutions but should rather be seen as cost-saving or supplementary systems BUT could be used as the basis to grow an Off-Grid solution.
Going more 'Off Grid'
The term "Off Grid" normally refer to complete independence from conventional power supply in relation to electrical appliances in the home.
The main requirements to achieve this would be
- Battery storage to provide power equal to your daily usage
- An independent source of power to recharge and maintain your power usage e.g. solar panels
- A backup power source or battery storage when your power source is not available e.g. rainy days
- An inverter capable of powering your appliances from your batteries
- Integration into your existing electrical system
Herein lies the single largest reason for the difficulty of truly going off-grid - COST
On averages typical household consumes around 10KWh (kilowatt hour) per day*
*excludes Electric Geysers, Electric Stoves and Heaters.
This equates to running the SUNBOX inverter at a constant 500W for 20 hours per day.
What we need to provide this demand
Battery capacity of 382 amp hours (allows 1 day power with no solar input)
Total wattage of solar panels of 2300 Watts, or 2,3 kilowatts (includes 15% efficiency losses)
A minimum of 5 hours direct sunlight on the panel arrays
In order to supply power to satisfy this demand the SUNBOX would be expanded as follows
